IPS Shares News Details for Turnaround Schools and Introduces Potential Partners
(Jan. 9, 2020) – Indianapolis Public Schools will share plans for three state takeover schools and introduce potential local partners who would manage them if the Indiana State Board of Education returns the schools to the district. The INSBOE will make that decision at its monthly board meeting Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The district will hold a news conference Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4:30 p.m., at the Indianapolis Public Library, 40 E. St. Clair St., on the 6th floor in the Special Collections Room. It will follow the annual IPS Board of School Commissioners Retreat.
Board President Michael O’Connor and Superintendent Aleesia Johnson will outline specific plans and timelines for Emma Donnan Elementary and Middle School along with Emmerich Manual and Thomas Carr Howe high schools. The administration will also introduce leaders from Christel House, who would operate Manual. Adelante Schools and Phalen Leadership Academies have applied to operate Emma Donnan and leadership from both will also attend and share their vision for the school. All three groups have been identified as strong, local partners, with a proven track record of success.
If you plan to attend, we request you RSVP no later than Friday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m.
